Photo search guide — write better scene descriptions

Search visual meaning

The search index represents image contents, not just filenames or dates. Try two to four specific words describing visible objects, actions or colours: “red car in snow”, “dog on beach”.

If a query finds too little

Remove a restrictive detail or describe the main subject more broadly. Rare objects, distant details and abstract concepts can be difficult. Search by description is not face identification by a person’s name.

Keep the scope clear

Only analysed photos in the active scope appear. Check folder/subfolder, latest-import and date-added filters. Preparing an index takes local CPU or GPU work; images do not need uploading to a cloud.
